Summary:
Nash Barron may be cynical about love, yet even he likes a good wedding. But the only good thing about his brother’s wedding is Kelly Moss. Nash can’t help but admire her confidence and beauty, but he’s forced to keep his distance because getting involved with Kelly could destroy his relationship with his newly discovered half sister, Tess…
Kelly came to Serendipity to give Tess–her half sibling as well, thanks to an illicit affair–a second chance at life. She learned long ago not to rely on anyone but herself. Besides, she doesn’t want to upset Tess’s life by pushing for a fling with Nash. Except the more she gets to know him, the more vulnerable she becomes to the kindness beneath his gruff exterior, and the less she’s able to stay away. But she has other reasons for keeping her distance. Like the secret from her past she knows Nash will never forgive…
DiDi's Review:
Two words for Carly Phillip’s new series SERENDIPITY - SIMPLY AMAZING!
SERENDIPITY is about three brothers torn apart by a tragedy, forgiveness, secrets, a small town devastated by a ponzi scheme and finding love. Like all of Ms. Phillips’ books, the Serendipity books have love scenes that make me catch my breath. Every character is complex, the heroes are Alpha without being the “ME Tarzan, YOU Jane” type, they’re complex and sexy as all get out! The heroines are tough, confident and feisty. I just finished, book 2, DESTINY, and am so in love with all three Barron brothers, their teenage sister Tess and the town of Serendipity it’s unreal. If you like a good contemporary romance chock full of emotions, humor, family ties, complex characters, steamy lovin' and a plot with twists and turns YOU really should give this series a try.
In SERENDIPITY, book one, we meet the Barron brothers, and I have to admit, while I love all three brothers, I fell hard for Nash. Nash caught me because he was so bitter and full of hatred, I had a feeling underneath it all was a caring, passionate man dealing with a ton of hurt. Nash has issues from his parent's death, he blames his older brother Ethan (bk 1) for leaving him and their younger brother to the foster care system, where they were separated from each other. Nash in an upscale home and Dare with people who had more kids than they could afford. Nash is a lawyer and sees everything black and white, and does not give second chances. Kelly, I wasn't sure what to think about Kelly in SERENDIPITY, I had a hard time with the fact she just left her teenage half-sister Tess, with three grown half- brothers she never met before. In DESTINY, we learn why Kelly felt she had to leave Tess. Kelly does not want to get involved with Nash because of how it could affect their mutual half-sister Tess. The fact she see relationships in black and white adds to her determination not to get involved with Nash. Kelly ends up being one of my favorite heroines, she is funny, sweet and really just looking out for the best interest of Tess.
Nash and Kelly have an emotional journey to their HEA, not only between the two of them, but also their own personal healing to deal with, including dealing with their prior relationships. Nash is still friends with his ex-wife Annie and wants to take care of her. Annie happens to be the first friend Kelly made in Serendipity, which calls for some tense, emotional and even funny moments. The situation with Kelly's ex-boyfriend comes to light, destroys Nash and Kelly's budding relationship, then forces Nash to re-evaluate his black and white view points.
Along with all the emotional ups and downs there are funny moments in DESTINY too, I started to feel sorry for Nash and Kelly because people kept interrupting intimate moments. I LOVE TESS she is so icked by seeing Ethan kiss Faith or Nash kiss Kelly and has no problems voicing her teenage opinion.
As much as I enjoyed Kelly and Nash's story and going through their very emotional journey to their HEA. The dynamics between Nash, Dare and Ethan kept me riveted throughout the book. There are so many things that have happened to these three brothers, that you can't help but root for all of them to mend fences and have a total HEA, not just with their women but as a family. Tess is a fun, sweet addition to the books, I am thoroughly enjoying watching her transfrom from a goth, emo delinquent to a beautiful, precocious teeenager.
Serendipity, also has a super sweet secondary romance between Annie, who happens to have MS and is NOT looking for a romance and Joe, the owner of the bar where they all hang out.
Last but not least, Nash and Tess did not bond in SERENDIPITY, he starts the long hard road to win her over in DESTINY and it's a great road to walk with them. (well not really last there is so much in this book, I can't possibly touch on all of it).
SERENDIPITY is fast on it's way to catching up with Ms. Phillips HOT ZONE series as one of my all time favorites.
