Doggone but Not Forgotten by Cynthia Selwyn ~ Review

She needs to get out of there, fast

Eighteen years ago, Jack Radigan took Carrie Moore's virginity—then broke her heart by marrying her best friend. Now Carrie's Nana has died, forcing her back to Rhode Island, where she's trying to sell off Nana's estate before she runs into him. But Nana had a dog not even her lawyer knew about, and it appears Carrie's plan is doomed. Because the Irish wolfhound seems to have an agenda all her own, and it involves making Carrie deal with Jack—the town's animal control officer—on a daily basis. The havoc the beast wreaks is costing Carrie a fortune. Hopefully, it won't cost the last whole bits of her heart, too.

Jack married Becky…but he didn't love her.

She was pregnant and he needed to be a father to the child. Now, Becky's gone, and Carrie's back home. So when her dog runs amok in their town of Narragansett, it's his job to get the animal under control. But first, he has to control his desire to kiss Carrie, the woman he was meant to marry many years before.

I Spy a Dark Obsession by Jo Davis Review

As leader of the covert homeland security agency SHADO, Michael Ross wants revenge on ex-agent Robert Dietz. Only two people can help him capture this psychopath: Sexy tech expert Katrina Brandt and Michael's new right-hand man, Bastian Chevalier. But as the three team up, they find themselves consumed by an illicit desire for one another. Will his two lovers be able to save Michael from falling prey to his deadly lust for vengeance?

What I though...

Wow..talk about a HOT book! This one burns the pages from the beginning.

This book is about Michael, Bastian, and Katrina. Michael is the leader of the Shadow Agency, Bastian is his CEO, and Katrina is their tech person. All three characters are amazing. Katrina is a strong, take no BS kind of girl. She is not afraid to ask for what she wants. I thought her perfect for this book because she has the ability to be both strong and comforting. Michael is a man confused. He knows deep down he has feelings for Bastian but continues to try and convince himself that they are not "those" kind of feelings. He is a character that you want to reach into the pages and ring his neck but you still feel for him. When he finds himself he turns into a very compassionate and loving person yet strong and capable. Bastian knows what he wants but can't seem to figure out how to get it. He is a very compassionate person who you honestly feel bad for. He is the perfect person for this story. When the three of them come together they start a fire that will have you fanning yourself in no time.

Ms Davis really knows how to make you feel the emotion throughout this book. The sexual tension is, for lack of a better word, tense and palpable. The plot grabs you at the beginning and the suspense and action keep you hooked the whole way through.

I would definately recommend this book to anyone who wants a very steamy and suspenseful romance.

Whispers on a Scream by Cree Walker Review

Sugar Lubec, at 24, is barely making it, in the crown of Maine. Having had a childhood of nightmarish proportion, she stays clear of any form of social interaction. She pushes everyone away, using cynicism, spite or her fists. She's convinced herself that all she's meant to do in life is to exist. Survival is her only talent, until late one night, she discovers she can't even get that right.

Jack Coon is an Alpha Werewolf from southern Maine. He was born into the position of leader, and unlike some, he was bred for it. His pack is his life, but his job is a little different. He is sent by the Council to eliminate humans who were bitten by werewolves, like Sugar's birth parents. This is new territory for him, though. Sugar was never really bitten; her parents were. So, does this make her a 'Born' like him? Of course, these questions really start to nag at him after meeting her for the first time. He is loyal and very efficient at his job, but killing this woman feels like it's the last thing he's meant to do. And if he's right, and she's a 'Born' wolf, than she could be the key to saving his race.

The Council (a tiny group of ancient werewolves who govern the packs on larger matters), feels that Sugar is their natural enemy, but Jack stubbornly refuses to take her life. She's prohibited from taking a mate.

Making a political move the Counsel, finds a way around having Sugar so close to their ranks and enters her into the challenges. Every year, Alpha's from different packs fight for the right to take single females into their own bloodlines. Sugar is up for grabs, because no one in her pack can claim rights to her, and Jack isn't so surprised to find out that the bitten pack is being allowed to fight this year.

During her captivity by another pack, she learns that Jack is getting sick. Wolves mate for life, and if there is no mate...there is no life. Though Sugar and Jack are not a mated pair, something in him thinks they are, and now he's dying. The separation is too long for him to remain healthy. But, he needs to be healthy in order to win her back in next year's challenges.

What I thought...

Ok...I am not going to summarize the story but what I am going to do is tell you what I thought about the story. I honestly think the story was a 4 star but the ending was a 2 star. I didn't agree with the ending. I am compromising on 3 stars cause I don't want to take away from the story. It read like an autobiography of Sugar and it was very good. Both characters made sense. Yes they did things that made me think WTF?? and these things kind of came out of left field but I was able to read over them and continue. I thought the story was a bit jumpy but oh well not a huge deal when the story line is so intriguing.

What I did like about it was Sugar was one kick ass girl. She did not let anyone walk on her and was sick of being brought down and Jack just dealt with it. I felt that some of the time she came out of character and gave up too easily. I would have liked to have seen her fight a little harder during those times but it worked with the story. Jack was a strong Alpha male but didn't flaunt it. He realized when he was wrong and fixed it. He was not afraid to admit he was wrong but he was also not afraid to use his power to get what he wanted. I really felt for the characters and was rooting for them the whole time. I didn't really understand when the feelings changed between the two but when they did the banter was great and the tension was amazing. I liked all the secondary characters and I think Ms Walker added a good amount of humor to lighten the story. I was very intrigued with the world Ms Walker developed and would like to see more of it. I would recommend this story to paranormal lovers.

"Secret Dreams" by Heather Peters Review

Annie DeRosa, a savvy, brilliant, music producer, lives and works in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. She is the best at what she does and devotes her waking hours to her work. Music icon and 80s superstar Dane Franklyn is fiercely independent and possessive of his material. His music company has given him literally hours to write a title song for his upcoming album. He's never allowed anyone to share the load, until now. Finding himself in a bind, he's come to the conclusion he needs help. But when that help comes in the petite fiery form of lovely, sexy, smart Annie De Rosa, the sparks fly. The sexual tension crackles from their first meeting and gradually elevates into an all-out inferno by the time they begin working together in the studio. Being stubborn individuals, their personalities soon clash, and Dane and Annie agree to disagree. But music creates a language and sexuality all its own, driving them both to discover a passion and desire neither have ever known.

BURNING DOWN THE SPOUSE by Dakota Cassidy ~ Release Day 7-5-11

I had had the wonderful opportunity to read this book before the release day. If you have not read this series yet...you NEED to. Ms Cassidy will crack you up in this new series about ex-trophy wives and there road to rediscovering themselves. The first book in the series ~ YOU DROPPED A BLONDE ON ME ~ is now available with the second being released on 7/5/11. Ok, now back to the feature book.

BURNING DOWN THE SPOUSE is the second book in this fantastic new series by Dakota Cassidy. Read the blurb below...

After discovering that her famous chef husband was cheating, Frankie Bennett lost her mind-on live TV. Now Frankie is broke, unemployed, and hiding out in her aunt's retirement village. That is, until Maxine Henderson-Barker-reformed trophy wife and owner of Trophy Jobs Inc. employment agency-arrives to give Frankie a much needed kick in the pants.

Soon, Frankie lands a job as a prep chef at a Greek diner in New Jersey, home to the world's best meatloaf and an owner who resembles an exquisitely chiseled Greek statue. Falling into bed with Nikos isn't the best idea, but after years of living in a man's shadow, this ex- trophy wife is ready to get busy cooking...

What I thought...

Ms Cassidy has done it again. She has given us a book that will make us laugh out loud one moment and say "awwwww" the next all while cheering on the characters.

Francis "Frankie" Bennett is an ex-trophy wife. Her husband was a famous chef and millionaire. When she caught him cheating she confronted him on national television and left him. She has nothing but her car and her dog Kiki and now is living with her aunt in a retirement village and has been sleeping for 6 months. In walks Maxine (from book 1) who drags her out of bed and forces her to go out find a job and start taking control of her life and future.

Frankie reluctantly agrees to an interview as an assistant to Nikos Antonaka, who runs his family's Greek diner. Nikos is a man who has been burned before so when he starts to feel attracted to Frankie he is cautious about letting it go too far. Frankie does not want to get involved with another man but is having trouble resisting her attraction to Nikos. Just when they think things are going great, in comes Mitch, the famous ex-husband to throw a bone in their plans.

I really enjoyed this book. At first Frankie comes across as a whiny, poor me kind of character but she soon finds herself and out comes a confident rather witty person that you grow to love. Nikos is a gorgeous Greek god but he has his issues that he is slowly overcoming. He is strong, talented, and very family orientated. The secondary characters Simon and Jasmine are amazing. Jasmine is a also an ex-trophy wife and Simon is an ex-pro football player. Their story is closely entwined with the main characters but wonderful all it it's own. My favorite part of this book was Nikos' family at the diner. His brother Cosmos, his mother Voula (absolutely hilarious), and his father Barnabas. This big loud family adds a very welcome and funny addition to an already great book.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a hilarious yet romantic story of two women and their men who are strong enough to overcome the trials of life and come out stronger and happier in the end.

I happily give this book 4 butterflies!
