Bestselling romance author Angel Payne has been reading and writing her entire life, though her love for romances began in junior high, when writing with friends on “swap stories” they’d trade between classes. Needless to say, those stories involved lots of angst, groping, drama, and French kissing.

She began getting a paycheck for her writing in her twenties, writing record reviews for a Beverly Hills-based dance music magazine. Some years, various entertainment industry gigs, and a number of years in the hospitality industry later, Angel returned to the thing she loves the most: creating character-based romantic fiction. Along the way, she also graduated with two degrees from Chapman University in Southern California, taking departmental honors for English, before writing five historical romances for Kensington and Bantam/Doubleday/Dell.

Angel found a true home in writing contemporary-based romances that feature high heat and high concepts, focusing on memorable alpha men and the women who tame them. Review: Creating Slapshot - Underground Part 2 by Cassandra Carr

Creating Slapshot:

I’ve left my old life behind and officially joined Underground. It appears no one knows where I am or even if I’m still alive. I don’t know how I feel about that. My friends thinking I’m dead leaves a hole in my heart, but I’ll drive myself crazy if I obsess about it. So rather than allowing myself to wallow in self-pity or anger about what’s happened, I’m throwing all my energy into training. Gets better every time!

In this part of the serial, Slapshot aka Ethan ex hockey player turned black ops, is born. He is struggling with everything but is catching on to the training quickly. His teammates are understanding and compassionate and you can tell there are going to be some pretty strong bonds formed.

I love how we get more banter between the characters as we get to know them and we learn some of there histories. We get a little more of Ciana, our leading lady and we get to hear her story. I think she is going to be a very interesting character and I can't wait to get to know her better.

Can't wait for part #3!

About Cassandra

So who am I? I've been writing my whole life, and have been published since March 2011. I'm lucky to have an incredibly supportive husband named Inspiration who brings home the bacon so I can stay home and fry it (and eat it all before he's able to fight through the rush hour traffic - I'm mean that way, but like I always say, don't get between a woman and her bacon).

I live in Western New York with Inspiration and our young daughter, Too Cute for Words. I write in a variety of genres, pairings, and heat levels, so there's something for everyone, and more than one dozen sites have named my books "Top Picks" or "5 Star Reads".

I'm a PAN member of the leading professional association for romance novelists, Romance Writers of America. I've met so many interesting people through these organizations and highly recommend them to any aspiring writer!

As you can see, my life is pretty busy, but I try to take as much time as I can to write. And re-write. And re-write. It's a never-ending, vicious circle, and I love it!

The seemingly impossible has happened. The unthinkable. Those I trusted most have betrayed me. I’m a hockey player, and gave control of my finances to my parents so I could concentrate on my game. Big mistake. They stole from me, bankrupted me, in fact. And then someone came looking for money I don’t have and I did something terrible that will haunt me forever. After that, I took off with no thought about where I’d go or what I’d do.

But a secret organization found me and offered a new start, a salvation. I would no longer be a hockey player, I wouldn’t even be an actual person. Doing this would require me to go totally off the grid. I’d be a shadow, fighting crime with a group that’s underground, literally. Do I want that life?

If I went back, what kind of life would I have? Probably one in prison orange. The choice to join Underground is painful, but necessary. As my hockey coach always said, though, pain is weakness leaving the body. I will not be powerless ever again.

Off the Grid is the first of a 10 part serial that will be released in 2015.

In this book we meet Ethan. Professional hockey player turned black ops. Without saying too much, Ethan's life is turned upside down when he is betrayed by people he trusts and loves. His hockey career is over and he has to make some pretty huge life decisions.

You can tell from the get go that Ethan is a very strong character. He is caring, compassionate, and not to mention, sexy as hell. Along with Ethan, we get to meet numerous other characters as well. I can tell this is going to be a pretty amazing story and I am excited to get to read more.
